A Ukrainian drone attack on the city of Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan has killed at least 12 people overnight and left 39 others injured, according to local officials.

Mayor Radmir Belyaev said “both industrial and civilian sites” were targeted in the city, which is located some 880km east of Moscow.

The regional Health Ministry has ordered a surge of responders, sending to Nizhnekamsk six additional medical teams from the city of Naberezhnye Chelny and Tatarstan’s center for disaster medicine, a specialized trauma hospital.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least one child was among those hospitalized following the raid.

Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov has declared a period of mourning for the victims of the Ukrainian strikes.

The Russian Defense Ministry earlier reported that air defense forces had intercepted 456 Ukrainian drones overnight, including over Tatarstan.
